Called into Service
In his sermon "The Weight of Glory" C.S. Lewis describes our common desire to belong to beauty; to not simply observe beauty but be a part of it. We attempt to satisfy this desire by possessing things which look beautiful. But we soon find it is a shallow imitation of what we really desire, what we really need. History testifies that men are not remembered for possessing that which appears beautiful. They are remembered when that which is beautiful possesses them.
It is an odd calling. Many of us know the feeling of saying to ourselves "I hope I never get called to minister there" but then somehow we find ourselves "there" and to our surprise, the rewards are indescribable.
Serving people in countries that do not enjoy the same blessings we have is a wonderful way to experience the love of our creator. When we find ourselves in His service, we realize we belong to Him and are doing His work.
